WHIRLPOOL UK CONTINUES ITS SUPPORT FOR SUE RYDER

Throughout 2022, Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited, the home of Hotpoint, has extended its support for palliative, neurological and bereavement support charity, Sue Ryder, which runs Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough, through a variety of fundraising events and activities to raise money for the charity, in addition to regularly donating appliances.

Whirlpool UK colleagues kicked off 2022 by taking part in Sue Ryder’s Treecycling scheme. The campaign saw a group of volunteers, including eight colleagues from Whirlpool UK, collect real Christmas trees from homes across Peterborough, in exchange for a donation. Once collected, the trees were recycled and used for mulch. In total, over 500 trees from across the city were collected and over £7,000 was raised for the charity.Whirlpool UK also sponsored the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival.

The event, which took place in June 2022 and saw around 40 teams compete in a dragon boat race on a 200-metre course, while raising vital funds for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. In total, the festival raised over £38,000 for the charity, which provides expert and compassionate palliative care to people living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families.

In October 2022, Whirlpool UK hosted a charity quiz at its UK headquarters in Peterborough, with over 40 colleagues attending for an evening of fun, food and general knowledge. The company also organised a raffle, where one lucky colleague won the top prize of a Hotpoint washing machine worth around £850. Furthermore, three colleagues also completed the Great Eastern Half Marathon in aid of Sue Ryder. In total, proceeds from the charity quiz event and the Great Eastern Half Marathon raised over £1,700 for the charity.

Most recently, a group of Whirlpool UK colleagues also volunteered at the Burghley Christmas Fair, an annual festive shopping event that is held in the grounds of Burghley House, Stamford. The Burghley Christmas Fair is organised in association with the Angel Fair Committee, providing support and raising funds for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. Colleagues from Whirlpool UK provided a helping hand, assisting stallholders with unloading their vehicles and setting up their stalls in advance of the fair opening to the public.

Sue Ryder’s multi-disciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, complementary therapy, bereavement counsellors, and psychological and spiritual support. The Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in the city, and also offers a ‘Hospice at Home’ service, which provides patients living in communities in and around Peterborough with the opportunity to receive care in their own home.

Ian Moverley, Communications Director, Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited comments: “We are extremely proud to have continued supporting Sue Ryder throughout 2022, with our colleagues taking part in numerous fundraising events and activities throughout the year.
