Sustainability remains at the core of the Spanish ceramic tile industry, where innovation, efficiency and responsible practices continue to shape the future of tile manufacturing. As global industries strive to reduce their environmental impact, Tile of Spain’s company members are taking meaningful steps towards climate neutrality, whilst reinforcing their long-standing commitment to a circular economy.

Ceramic tiles are an eco-friendly surface choice as they are not only made from natural materials such as clay, sand and water, but the production process also involves minimal environmental impact. Spanish ceramic tiles have a long lifespan and can often be recycled at the end of their use, further reducing their environmental footprint.

Advancing new technologies to reduce emissions and improve efficiency, Spanish manufacturers are bringing innovation and action to their sustainability efforts. Equipe Cerámicas has developed the first 100% electric kiln for ceramic tile production, marking a milestone in low-carbon manufacturing. Venux has invested in antipollution filters, while Argenta Cerámica achieved ISO 17889-1 green certification, underscoring Spain’s leadership in sustainable practices.
Future-focused projects include testing hydrogen-based fuel blends and the upcoming ORANGE.BAT green hydrogen plant, which will further reduce fossil fuel reliance.

Spain recycles 93% of process waste and in 2023 alone, industry practices saved 810,000 tons of raw materials, 923 million litres of water and avoided 450,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Brands such as Tempio, Pamesa Cerámica, Coverlam, Exagres, Roca Tiles and Rosa Gres are also delivering innovative products that combine sustainability with timeless design.

Despite challenges around cost, funding and scaling new technologies, the sector is committed to the EU’s climate neutrality target for 2050. With continuous innovation and circular economy initiatives, Tile of Spain’s members are demonstrating how sustainability and design excellence can go hand in hand.
Representing 125 ceramic tile manufacturers across Spain, Tile of Spain promotes the incredible quality and values worldwide of the Spanish tile industry. Versatile, durable and authentic, Spanish tiles offer unique characteristics and unlimited aesthetic possibilities whilst acting as a global benchmark for their high degree of innovation.
