Packaging sustainability credentials: Quooker

Offering filtered, chilled and sparkling water from the same tap at the touch of a button is one of the ways in which Quooker is tackling the issue of sustainability through product development. The new and improved Quooker CUBE was launched last year to provide a lighter, more compact and easier to install alternative to our successful CUBE accessory, initially released in 2019. The new CUBE boasts an improved water flow for the chilled water mode and two different effervescence levels, so users can pick their preferred level of fizz in their drinks. This improvement was crucial to provide a more long-term sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bottles. Considering that the average UK household uses a staggering 360 single-use plastic bottles per year, taps that can deliver filtered, sparkling and chilled water will help to reduce this figure dramatically.

Expert comment from Stephen Johnson, Managing Director at Quooker:

“The environmental benefits of a boiling water tap are notable. Dispensing the right amount of water needed at any given time, boiling water taps help reduce water wastage. Gone are the days of overboiling the kettle only to pour away unused water. At Quooker, we have also introduced the CUBE which dispenses filtered, chilled and sparkling water directly from the tap. The average UK household uses on average 360 single-use plastic bottles per year. Our instant, always-fizzy water, with canisters that can be recycled and re-used, is a game-changer.  What’s more, one canister of C02 yields 60litres of carbonated water which significantly reduces the need for single-use plastic bottles. Dispensing precisely the amount of water needed at any given moment, CUBE ensures responsible and more sustainable consumption.”
