Thirteen years after the launch of the first Kartell by LAUFEN collection, the collaboration between LAUFEN and Kartell evolves toward a new vision of the contemporary bathroom environment. A shared journey that celebrates past achievements while looking to the future through an entirely new project, marked by renewed technological and material research.
LAUFEN and Kartell announce the opening of a new chapter conceived to interpret the bathroom not only as a functional space, but as an environment dedicated to design, wellbeing and the quality of everyday living. To shape this evolution, the creative direction has been entrusted to designer and architect Ferruccio Laviani.
The first collection introduced Saphirkeramik, the revolutionary material developed by LAUFEN, redefining the formal and structural possibilities of ceramics. Today, this new phase begins under the sign of further technological evolution: VITREON steel, an innovative enamelled steel with extraordinary qualities, opening new design perspectives – particularly in the exploration of colour, a central and defining element of the Kartell by LAUFEN universe. This new material is central to research that expands the design language of the bathroom and broadens its expressive potential. The dialogue between enamelled steel, colour and domestic architecture redefines the way the bathroom space is experienced, fully integrating it into the Kartell by LAUFEN lifestyle as a coherent extension of contemporary living. This is not simply about products, but about a different narrative of living.
The new chapter complements perfectly the iconic design of Kartell by LAUFEN collection and represents the second stage of a journey that began more than a decade ago, yet it follows a deliberately different direction. The project develops along two complementary paths: on the one hand, the creation of a new furniture solution; on the other, the reinterpretation of an emblematic object from Kartell’s history.
Ferruccio Laviani has designed a new piece of furniture: beauTwash, a name that already encapsulates its founding idea. The “T” becomes the iconographic and structural sign of the entire system: an essential graphic gesture translated into architecture, proportion and balance. Not a mere formal detail, but an identity-defining element that shapes the object in its entirety.
beauTwash was conceived to move beyond the traditional idea of bathroom furniture as an element dedicated solely to service functions. The intention was not to create a container limited to self-care routines, but to design a true piece of furniture – endowed with presence, formal rigor and a distinctive character.
From the outset, the project was envisioned as a design object capable of engaging in dialogue with domestic architecture, rather than as a purely functional support. In this process, the opportunity to work with VITREON steel proved fundamental. This innovative enamelled steel combines technical performance with aesthetic refinement. The surfaces, depth of colour and variety of finishes give the product a sophisticated and contemporary presence. The material does not merely serve a technological function; it becomes an expressive language, amplifying the chromatic dimension, reflecting light and enhancing the purity of the lines.
The result is an object that shifts the focus toward a more personal and intimate dimension – the daily ritual of self-care. In this vision, the bathroom transforms into a refined and identity-driven space, approaching the idea of a private living room conceived for wellbeing and domestic experience.
At the same time, Laviani revisits one of Kartell’s most recognizable design symbols: the Componibile by Anna Castelli Ferrieri, reinterpreted as a column washbasin integrating storage functionality. An evolution that preserves the essence of the original object while expanding its language and potential uses. The outcome is a vision that extends beyond the individual product to embrace a new way of conceiving and living the contemporary bathroom environment.
“This new collection represents for us a gesture of evolution – not merely expansion,” says Lorenza Luti, Global Brand Director of Kartell. “With LAUFEN, we continue to explore the bathroom as a place of identity, emotion and design culture. We sought to introduce a meaningful shift, capable of surprising through unexpected materials and solutions. The encounter between technological research and creative sensitivity opens entirely new aesthetic scenarios. Ferruccio Laviani has interpreted this vision with intelligence, creativity and expressive freedom.”
From the very beginning, Kartell by LAUFEN has represented far more than the development of a product line: it has been an authentic meeting point between two international excellences united by a shared vision rooted in innovation, quality and design culture. Over the years, the collection has achieved significant international success, establishing itself as a benchmark in bathroom design. A result that confirms the strength and global relevance of a collaboration built on constant dialogue, experimentation and shared vision.
“We are entering a new era following the overwhelming success of this visionary collaboration. The iconic Kartell by LAUFEN collection brought a vibrant soul back to the bathroom, its proportions standing the test of time. Today, we evolve this legacy with new applications and the debut of VITREON steel – a material of absolute precision and sustainability, crafted for a deep, seamless colour match”, adds Marc Viardot, Corporate Marketing and Design Director, LAUFEN, Roca Group
Today the market no longer revolves exclusively around the product itself, but around the meaning an object assumes, its role within space and the relationship it establishes with everyday life. Within this context, the new Kartell by LAUFEN collection represented a particularly stimulating challenge for Ferruccio Laviani. Although it marked new territory in his design experience, he approached it through a distinctly architectural sensitivity, developed over years of research into domestic spaces.
“My relationship with Kartell spans more than thirty years and has profoundly shaped my growth as a designer,” says Ferruccio Laviani. “This familiarity with the company – its technologies and industrial processes – provides a significant advantage in the design phase, allowing for a precise understanding of its needs and a broader awareness in the creative process. The collection Kartell by LAUFEN represents an evolution in thinking about the bathroom: a space increasingly connected to the dimension of living, where function, material and colour contribute to shaping a new domestic experience.”
