The Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association (KBSA) will once again gather together the independent KBB sector at its flagship KBB Industry Conference 2025, taking place from 30 September to 1 October at The Belfry Hotel and Resort, West Midlands.
This year’s programme promises to be the most compelling yet, headlined by renowned architect and TV presenter George Clarke in an exclusive live interview with acclaimed broadcaster Emma Crosby. The two-day event will bring together the best minds in design, business and innovation to
inspire, connect and elevate the independent KBB sector.
Here, KBSA Chair, Richard Hibbert (above), talks about what makes this year’s conference essential for independent retailers navigating today’s challenging business landscape.

What are you most personally excited about this year’s programme – and why?
I’m particularly looking forward to having George Clarke live on stage with Emma Crosby. George is not just a well-known figure in the industry but a genuine household name with extensive knowledge and experience of all things build and design.

As one of the most recognisable faces in UK property and design, George brings a wealth of experience and passion to the KBSA stage. Known for his inspirational TV shows such as The Restoration Man, George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces and Old House New Home, George has
transformed the way Britain thinks about homes. His deep knowledge of architecture, his commitment to thoughtful design and his approachable, human-centred perspective promise to make his appearance a conference highlight.Screenshot 2025 08 07 104905

Emma Crosby will be facilitating the entire day’s programme, bringing her trademark insight and sharp journalistic style to what promises to be a compelling conversation. With her impressive background presenting Channel 5’s flagship news programme, plus regular appearances on LBC
Radio, Sky News and CNBC, Emma is perfectly positioned to explore George’s design philosophy, career journey and views on the future of the KBB sector.
How are you ensuring the event supports retailers navigating major industry shifts, such as AI, sustainability or supply chain volatility?
Networking is key to addressing these challenges. When retailers from across the country come together, they can openly discuss their business ‘pain points’ and collaborate on overcoming these obstacles. It’s equally valuable for them to share their successes and learn from each other’s
experiences.
The conference creates an environment where independent retailers can step back from day-to-day operations and engage with the bigger picture. Whether they’re grappling with new technologies, sustainability requirements or supply chain disruptions, the collective knowledge and experience in
the room provides invaluable support and practical solutions.Screenshot 2025 08 07 104946

What role do you believe the KBSA plays in shaping the next generation of retail leaders?
This is particularly relevant given that many of our members are family-run businesses. We’re increasingly seeing the next generation taking over or playing bigger roles within these businesses.
The conference provides an ideal platform for knowledge transfer and leadership development. These emerging leaders bring fresh perspectives and digital-native approaches, while learning from the experience and wisdom of established industry figures. The KBSA serves as a bridge between
generations, ensuring the independent KBB sector continues to thrive and evolve while maintaining its core values of quality craftsmanship and personal service.

Do you see a shift in the types of retailers attending – new entrants, digital-first or family-run?
We continue to see strong representation from family businesses – husbands and wives often attend together. What’s particularly encouraging is that we’re seeing these businesses bring more of their teams and designers with them. Once they’ve experienced the conference’s value, they recognise
the benefit of including their staff in future events.
This expansion reflects the KBSA Conference’s growing reputation as an essential professional development opportunity. It’s not just about the business owners anymore; it’s about developing entire teams and building capability across the organisation.Screenshot 2025 08 07 105023

What will retailers be able to learn from attending the event and how will it help them grow their business?
It’s really a chance to hit reset – something that’s often hard to come by for independent retailers. When you’re deep in the day-to-day of running a showroom and juggling personal responsibilities, there’s rarely time to step back and reflect on the bigger picture. This event provides that essential
breathing space.

Through insightful talks and peer-led discussions, attendees will gain tangible ideas they can immediately apply to their businesses – whether around customer experience, marketing, leadership or navigating industry change. But just as importantly, it’s about connection. Hearing
from others in similar situations, sharing challenges and realising you’re not alone can be incredibly powerful. Our hope is that every retailer leaves not just with useful takeaways, but with renewed confidence, energy and a sense of community that lasts well beyond the event itself.Screenshot 2025 08 07 105105

How do you plan to build on this year’s KBB Industry Conference for future years?
We’re constantly seeking ways to improve and ensure the conference remains perfectly tailored to the needs of independent KBB retailers. Post-event feedback is crucial – we listen carefully to what delegates tell us so we can continue developing it for both members and non-members.
The industry is evolving rapidly, and our conference must evolve with it while maintaining the core elements that make it valuable: genuine networking opportunities, practical insights and the chance for retailers to gain a fresh perspective on their businesses.Screenshot 2025 08 07 105111
