Surface materials distributor IDS is hosting a series of free training sessions for installers across its nationwide branches, in partnership with one of its key worksurface suppliers, Wilsonart UK.

The 1-hour training sessions will focus specifically on skilling up installers on how to install compact laminate worksurfaces, one of the fastest growing materials in the worktop sector.

Training will be carried out by Wilsonart’s Technical Manager and will focus specifically on the Bushboard Zenith compact laminate range, available in 20 designs in 12.5mm thickness.

The training is designed to demonstrate how easy it is to install compact laminate material using exactly the same tools and equipment as for standard chipboard-based worktops. The training will share knowledge and best practice on machining, storage, and handling of the material. It will provide live demonstrations and invite interaction from participants on how to cut, finish and install the product including undermount and inset sinks.

Sessions start at 8.30am with coffee and breakfast rolls ahead of the 1-hour training between 9-10am.

Says Jason Neve, National Business Development Manager for Worktops at IDS: “Installers often think that compact laminate must be harder and more problematic for them to fit on site but that’s the opposite of the reality. There’s no extra investment needed to buy tools, they can simply use the ones they have already. Compact laminate is an increasingly popular worktop material, being a trade up from standard laminate and a much more cost- effective design alternative to composites and this focussed training will give installers the confidence and skills to add this to their services.”

Training sessions are being held throughout June across the IDS branch network on the following dates: 4th Roysth, 5th Gateshead, 6th Leeds, 7th Stoke, 11th Norwich, 12th Woodford, 13th Swindon, 18th Exeter and 19th Nuneaton.

Training is open to any installers, designers and retailers in the surrounding catchment areas. Places can be booked by contacting the relevant IDS branch directly.
