Family vs Formal Living Rooms with Brandt Design

Luxury kitchen and interior design specialists, Brandt Design, deliver a range of solutions for the living room as the UK homeowner demands an everyday family room alongside a more formal space to entertain guests in or enjoy some much needed downtime.

Julia Steadman, Commercial Director at Brandt Design explains, “As more of us enjoy a more home-centred lifestyle, we are finding that homes with two living rooms are helping to achieve a good balance of social and private areas on the ground floor. Structured hybrid working has also increased the need for today’s professional to want a designated area to switch off from the home office and so making space for an exercise bike or yoga mat will do wonders for your mental health. Having two living rooms will also benefit the multigenerational household, as young adults can stream a movie while doing their homework in one as the grown-ups entertain friends or simply relax in peace!

Created and installed by Brandt Design, these contrasting living room spaces will inspire you to rethink your home with relaxation and wellness in mind. Designed for a family home in rural Hertfordshire, the family room which is open to the main kitchen and dining area features classic Heritage Furniture by Brandt Design, with a variety of closed storage and display units. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the private living space features a more paired back aesthetic with bespoke stone fireplace lovingly handcrafted by Brandt Design at its stone fabrication centre in Stevenage.

Each room offers a distinct atmosphere that is perfectly tailored to the homeowner’s needs and personal taste. The use of colour was key to creating the different moods in each living space, whether delivering a sophisticated and adult-friendly décor in deep blue, or ensuring a bright and comfortable family space with more neutral colour palette. What style of living room appeals to you most?

Family Room: In this property, the family room is designed open-plan and to blend seamlessly with the main kitchen and dining area by offering a host of cleverly designed fitted furniture with a full height, full width storage wall that also makes way for a large flatscreen TV. Painted in the neutral shade of Pigeon by Farrow and Ball, this bespoke arrangement of fitted furniture transforms what would have been an ordinary home entertainment system into a complete storage solution for the entire family. Six panel-fronted cupboards take care of table linen, glassware, plates and flatware for easy dining, as well as provided ample room to store non-essential items as required. Fully integrated shelving creates plenty of space to display family photos and personal accessories, as well as everyday cookery books so they can remain close enough to the kitchen, yet safe from food and drink spills. Becoming a decorative focal point even when there’s no screentime, this family room provides the perfect space to relax, watch TV, cook, eat and ultimately socialise in with the rest of the family.

Formal Living Room: More sophisticated in its design, the formal living space is the ideal place to hide away from the hustle and bustle of the main kitchen and family room. Whether it’s time for the kids to do their homework, eat dinner or watch their favourite TV shows, the adults now have a separate space to relax and unwind in, as well as entertain friends and family without impact to everyone else. There’s even space for a practical fitness zone so the homeowner can work out with free weights or set a new personal best on their Peloton. Rich, dark blue walls add to the restful vibe and a statement marble fireplace is the perfect finishing touch on the large interior wall. Complete with two modular sofas, the formal living room is the perfect place to snuggle up at the end of day and enjoy a private movie night or cheeky forty winks!

Brandt Design takes great pride in creating living spaces, which are tailor made with its range of custom furniture in near-limitless range of materials, colours and finishes. Offering two different furniture styles, customers can choose between the company’s classic Heritage Collection or contemporary style Urban Collection: both priced from £25,000 +vat. Prices for a bespoke stone fireplace on application.
