Funds to be used to support mental health talks for young people
Suicide prevention charity Adam’s Light has been named the recipient of a donation through Blum’s recent ‘Make It Happen’ good cause campaign, following a nomination from professional carpenter George Kelly. The funding will help the charity visit more schools and deliver its important message to young people.
Shining a light on suicide prevention among those under 30, Adam’s Light was founded by Lauren Carvalho in 2025 to honour her son, Adam, who died in 2011 aged just 19. Created in his memory, the charity has a clear mission to deliver impactful talks and workshops on mental health at schools, colleges, and organisations across the UK.
Blum’s Make It Happen good cause initiative recently invited hardworking professionals to turn meaningful ideas into reality by nominating a cause close to their heart. Throughout June numerous applications were submitted, with one worthy entry selected to receive a donation of £1,500 from Blum UK to help make a difference in 2026.
Owner of George James carpentry and close friend of Adam, George Kelly, nominated Adam’s Light with a heartfelt submission that ultimately led to the charity being chosen.
George commented: “I had the chance to tell the story of the charity and believed this donation would be hugely impactful. Adam was my close friend, and I’ve raised money previously by running the Brighton marathon. This was another opportunity to shine a spotlight on the cause and help provide the equipment and resources needed to raise further awareness of mental health and suicide among young people.”
Suicide is the leading cause of death in young people under 35 in the UK and there is need for greater awareness, early intervention and accessible support services to help those who may be struggling before they reach crisis point.
George continued: “Blum’s donation will help Adam’s Light reach more people by giving the charity the boost it needs to visit more schools and expand its work. Adam’s mum, Lauren, has counselled families bereaved by suicide for years and has spoken at numerous events, sharing her experience to help others. She is the driving force behind Adam’s Light.”
Helping to break down the stigma surrounding suicide while raising awareness of the growing crisis among young people, Adam’s Light encourages open and honest conversations about mental health through engaging, age-appropriate talks and workshops.
Krystyna Threlfall, Marketing Manager for Blum UK, commented: “Through our Make It Happen initiative we sought to hear about the good causes that sit close to the hearts of the Blum community, with a commitment to donate to the one that resonated most with our appointed selection panel. George’s nomination for Adam’s Light really moved us, and we felt it was an incredible cause to support.
“Suicide prevention and mental health awareness are vitally important, and the work that Adam’s Light is doing is truly inspirational. We are delighted to make this donation to help the charity reach more people and potentially make the difference to a young person going through a difficult time.”
