Magnet has named Morello, a deep cherry red, as its Kitchen Colour of the Year for 2027, becoming the first UK kitchen retailer to make its own annual colour prediction.
The deep cherry red reflects Magnet’s vision for warmer, more expressive kitchen interiors. Combining plum, crimson and earthy brown undertones, Morello balances traditional elegance with modern boldness, offering designers a rich colour that works across both classic and contemporary schemes.
Morello is available across six of Magnet’s Paint-to-Order ranges: Bewdley, Soho, Ludlow, Wardley, Dunham and Reed. Spanning Shaker and modern styles, the selected ranges offer up to 27 curated colours, giving designers scope to build complementary palettes around the shade.
Laura Townsend, Design Manager at Magnet, said: “We sampled a lot of cherry burgundy-reds before landing on Morello. It had to be a true deep cherry to translate beautifully into a kitchen, not too bright and not too neutral. Being British at heart, we also wanted a shade that married traditional elegance with modern boldness.”
“Deep cherry reds return to the catwalk and high street every autumn and now they are moving into our homes. As interiors shift from minimalism towards comfort and character, dark, rich colours are replacing stark neutrals. What surprises our customers is how versatile they are, mixing easily with natural wood, brass, marble and bold prints. Burgundy is fast becoming the new black in kitchens.”
For kitchen designers, Morello offers options ranging from full colour-drenching to a statement island paired with lighter cabinetry. Magnet’s styling recommendations include Chalk Blush and light pinks for a gentler contrast, green for a more expressive pairing, and warm brass handles and taps to bring out the red’s richness.
Black accents give Morello a cleaner, more architectural feel, while strongly veined stone or marble-look worktops add another layer of visual interest. Walnut worktops, flooring and open shelving provide warmth and help ground the overall scheme.
Laura added: “A kitchen can be both liveable and full of personality. It’s the heart of our homes that we spend so much of our time in, working from home, cooking, eating, debriefing at the end of the day, so why shouldn’t it reflect who we are?”
She added: “Lots of our customers worry that they will regret a bold colour, but actually, just because you’ve gone with a safer colour doesn’t mean you won’t regret it. Your kitchen is for you, not for anyone else – forget outside noise and focus on a colour that will bring you joy.”
